2Physical Risk

An overview of how to model your company's physical risk with international coverage for various climate hazards, and how to view/interpret the output.

Rapidly quantifying exposure to acute hazards transforms abstract climate data into concrete financial impacts, enabling you to prioritize resilience investments where they matter most. This level of granular, global insight is foundational for defensible regulatory reporting and strategic capital planning in an increasingly volatile climate.

Beehive's physical risk modeling capabilities are realized via the following modules:

  • Risk Scores: An asset-level summary of physical climate risk across various forward-looking scenarios.

  • Map: A visual map showing geolocations of your assets and corresponding physical risks.

  • Reports: A dashboard showing high-level physical risk insights via graphs and charts.

  • Impact: A dashboard showing high-level financial impact insights via graphs and charts.

  • Risk Planning: A summary of physical risk and financial impact for a specified time period in the future intended for forward-looking risk planning.

Risk Scores

The Risk Scores module provides an asset-level summary of physical climate risk across various forward-looking scenarios. Additionally, it provides the flexibility to filter by asset type, hazard, risk score, or continent, providing an efficient way to explore your data more thoroughly. Lastly, users have the option to export an audit trail for transparency and communication internally.

Map

The Map module shows your assets geolocated across the globe, offering an easy-to-digest visual for physical risk comprehension within your organization. Users may filter by asset type, score, hazard, time frame, or scenario. Lastly, users may filter between the map view type (i.e., "Default Map" or "Risk Map") for different ways to view the risk across the globe.

Impact

The Impact module provides a dashboard showing high-level financial impact insights via graphs and charts. More specifically, users get the total financial impact as risk due to physical climate events, the highest risk asset, highest risk country, and most impactful hazard by dollar value. In addition, several charts and graphs put financial metrics into more context by various categories (e.g., risk by hazard type). Users may filter by asset type, continent, hazard, time frame, and scenario.

Risk Planning

The Risk Planning module allows for a summary of physical risk and financial impact for a specified time period in the future intended for forward-looking risk planning. For example, users may select "April" through "June" to get their second quarter climate-related financial risk. Additionally, users may obtain historical context as to why and how the financial risk was obtained (e.g., viewing past hurricanes that occurred within the specified time period.
